After the sudden death of Rob Harper in January 2014, the Rob Harper Memorial Fund was established as a partnership between FC Dallas Foundation and the Friends of Rob. Our goal is to identify young people who would like to play recreational soccer but can’t afford to participate, and then to assist them in paying for league dues, uniforms, and other equipment.
Rob Harper was a native Texan, a 1979 graduate of J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, and a co-captain of the varsity soccer team that went undefeated during his senior season. Rob also played for the Sparta and Dallas Roadrunner club soccer teams and was a member of the U.S. Southern All Star team. Rob attended SMU where he played for the nationally-ranked soccer team and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Rob graduated in 1982 with BA and BBA degrees, married his high school sweetheart, and went on to raise two sons at their family home in Carrollton. Rob coached his sons’ soccer teams and played in the men’s league. At the time of his death, Rob had been developing real estate projects for the Lamar Hunt family for over 18 years.
The Friends of Rob consists of a group of friends, former teammates, competitors, and colleagues who were deeply affected by their relationships with Rob Harper. Rob was a person of character and integ-rity, a natural leader, and a moral compass for his friends and family. He had a passion for making the sport of soccer available to all those who wanted to play, and we are dedicated to fulfilling his vision through our partnership with FC Dallas Foundation.
